What happened at practice on Tuesday?
The Jets were back on the field for practice on Tuesday. Here's what happened:
- Bilal Powell and Matt Forté were back in pads but in the rehab area with Gabe Marks, Xavier Coleman, Shamarko Thomas, Connor Harris and Marcus Murphy.
- Lorenzo Mauldin also missed practice again with a sore back and Deshon Foxx was injured during team periods.
- Christian Hackenberg looked sharp in individual work and got some first team reps again. Robby Anderson also looked good in individual drills against Morris Claiborne, but ArDarius Stewart had a drop.
- Defense dominated again on pass rush drills, with Leonard Williams virtually unblockable. This carried over into the team period with plenty of pressure including a Williams sack and a Wilkerson bat down.
- Freddie Bishop got some first team reps on defense and had one of the plays of the day with a big hit in the backfield. Brent Qvale remains with the first unit at right tackle.
- Jason Vander Laan had a couple of catches during team drills, while Chris Gragg had a drop.
- Anthony Firkser had to run a lap after his fumble was recovered by Patrick Gamble, then gave up a sack to Jamal Adams in team periods. Jonnotthan Harrison also got made to run a lap.
- Bryce Petty was sharp in 7-on-7's but didn't get many reps in 11-on-11's and struggled with pressure in red zone. However, he led the back-ups on a successful two minute drill, culminating in a 35-yard scoring toss to Myles White, who beat Dexter McDougle.
- In team periods, Hackenberg threw a long (70-80 yards) touchdown on a bomb to Anderson, who beat Juston Burris. However, the rollercoaster continued when he threw his first two 11-on-11 interceptions of camp later on, in the space of three plays. Marcus Williams and Marcus Maye picked him off.
- Steve McLendon brought the team together for a team huddle prior to the final team periods during which he fired them up with an impassioned speech.
- Josh McCown connected on a couple of nice passes to Anderson - who had a big practice - and Jordan Leggett, then hit Leggett again for a touchdown, but was under a lot of pressure again on his next series.
- The linebackers seemed to have a good practice. Demario Davis stood out in team periods, Darron Lee intercepted Bryce Petty in a one-on-one drill and had a big hit in team periods and Julian Stanford intercepted Hackenberg in 7-on-7's.
- In red zone periods, Stewart scored on an end-around and Claiborne broke up a pass in the end zone. Hackenberg almost had a couple more picks, but completed a touchdown pass to Austin Seferian-Jenkins. He could have had another but Elijah McGuire dropped his throw on the run, one of two for the rookie on the day.
- Practice concluded with McCown leading the first string offense on a two minute drill, finding Jalin Marshall, who beat Buster Skrine over the middle.
We'll let you know if anyone says anything interesting after practice is over.
