What happened at practice on Thursday?
Here were some of the main happenings as the Jets continued their 2017 training camp with a practice in full pads on Thursday:
- Matt Forté was kept out again after his hamstring injury a few days ago. Marcus Murphy also missed practice and ArDarius Stewart appeared to be limited again.
- Rookie Elijah McGuire and Dylan Donahue made impressive plays in one on one drills.
- Reserve defensive lineman Claude Pelon limped off with an injury.
- Jason Vander Laan earned some first team reps in 7-on-7 drills.
- Jamal Adams missed the team periods, although he did not appear to be injured. Rontez Miles started in his place and made a nice play on a screen, while Marcus Maye remained in there and dropped a possible pick-six on a Josh McCown pass.
- Jordan Jenkins, Leonard Williams and Morris Claiborne had big hits in a full contact period.
- Wesley Johnson saw some second and third unit snaps at left guard as the team mixed and matched on the offensive line.
- Ross Martin nosed ahead in the placekicker battle by making all six of his kicks while Chandler Catanzaro missed three.
- Once again the defense dominated team periods, generating a lot of pressure. The offensive line struggled, leaving pass rushers unblocked on a few plays. Leonard Williams, Bruce Carter and Lorenzo Mauldin were among those who got home.
- For the first time, the team worked on red zone in team periods and all three offenses failed to score once.
- During the red zone period Darron Lee had a pass break-up and Demario Davis had a sack, although the inside linebacker flashing the most often still seems to be Julian Stanford.
- Jordan Leggett and Robby Anderson were among several players who had to run laps after committing penalties. Anderson also dropped a wide-open pass in the end zone and Chad Hansen lost a fumble.
- Practice closed with post-practice sprints for the whole team.
Stick around because in due course we'll let you know if anyone said anything important after practice.
