What happened at practice on Saturday?
Here were some of the main happenings as the Jets kicked off their 2017 training camp with a practice on Saturday:
- Nobody, other than the quarterbacks, was wearing a red no-contact jersey or reported as leaving the field or working in the rehab area. ArDarius Stewart was limited after earlier doing individual drills and Ben Ijalana had already confirmed he'd be limited.
- From the group working on returns, Lucky Whitehead seemed to stand out. Elijah McGuire, previously said to be a candidate, was not working with this group.
- As is often the case early on in camp, the defense is ahead of the offense, as it was a sloppy start offensively. Jets receivers apparently dropped a lot of passes early on, with Charone Peake being a chief culprit.
- Morris Claiborne impressed with two interceptions of Josh McCown - one in individuals and one in team - and also got into a skirmish with Robby Anderson.
- Josh Martin and Lorenzo Mauldin opened up team periods as the first string linebackers. Juston Burris was the third cornerback again.
- Brent Qvale opened up the team period as the starting right tackle with Kelvin Beachum at left tackle.
- After having looked good earlier on, Christian Hackenberg had a few bad passes in team drills.
- Bryce Petty threw a pick-six to Marcus Williams on his first pass in team drills.
Stick around because in due course we'll let you know if anyone said anything important after practice.
