What happened at practice on Monday?
The Jets were back on the field on Monday for their first practice of the final week of training camp. Here's what went down:
- Practice was brought forward, shortened and moved inside in light of the impending eclipse.
- It was basically just a walk-through anyway.
- The three quarterbacks all saw first team reps, with Josh McCown seeing the most time with the first unit.
- Brandon Shell, Josh Martin, Chad Hansen and ArDarius Stewart were among players to get reps with the first unit.
- Darron Lee and Rontez Miles did not practice. Bruce Carter worked with the starters in place of Lee.
- Demario Davis led the defense in some extra drills with no coaches after practice was over.
Here's what Todd Bowles had to say after practice:
- The NFL today confirmed that Lee and Leonard Williams will not be disciplined for the off-field incident during the offseason. Bowles did not comment on this.
- Lee didn't participate today because he was feeling unwell.
- He'll make his decision on the starting quarterback and will probably announce it on Monday after watching the film.
- He can't say if Matt Forté will be healthy in time for the start of the season. He and Lorenzo Mauldin remain day-to-day.
- Rontez Miles doesn't have a concussion, just a laceration under his eye.
- He thinks the offense has the talent to score points and that's they'll "be fine".
- They didn't run a full practice today because they got in late on Saturday night (3:00am) and they practiced inside because that's where they conduct all walk-through practices.
- With reference to Hackenberg's first drop-back on Saturday, he refused to get into specifics but said there were breakdowns on a couple of fronts and they've subsequently discussed it in a meeting.
- He said that they didn't play well as an offense in the first half on Saturday, but acknowledged that Hackenberg is part of that offense.
