Todd Bowles and Mike Maccagnan speak to media at the combine
Here's a quick recap of what was said at the coach and general manager press conferences for the Jets today at the scouting combine in Indianapolis:
Head Coach Todd Bowles
- The team has "multiple plans" at quarterback;
- He praised the professionalism of David Harris and Matt Forté, who retired this week;
- They hope to sign some of the free agents they are targeting;
- Cutting Muhammad Wilkerson was a business decision and the "best for both sides" and the team did not try to rework his deal;
- He confirmed that Brian Winters had abdominal surgery;
- He admitted to being "concerned" about Robby Anderson and Dylan Donahue's legal issues; and
- There was no friction between him and John Morton and going with Jeremy Bates instead was to do with fit.
General Manager Mike Maccagnan
- The Wilkerson deal was always structured so they had a potential out after two years;
- The Jets are interested in a lot of free agents and expect to be very active;
- They're excited about some of the quarterbacks available; and
- Ideally he wants to build through the draft because that's the "cheapest form of labor".
