The Jets need to add some depth at safety based on a report from Manish Mehta of the NY Daily News which reveals that Doug Middleton has a torn pectoral muscle and will likely require surgery.
Therezie is 5'10" and 212 and has also played some cornerback. Despite running a sub-4.4 40-yard dash at his pro day, Therezie was undrafted out of Auburn in 2015, but played in 13 games with the Falcons as a rookie and started two games, registering 33 tackles and an interception. However, in his second season, he hardly saw any action on defense in his 12 appearances.
The Saints claimed him off waivers near the end of last year but he didn't play for them. They waived him yesterday after their first preseason game, in which he had one tackle. While their own website suggests Therezie has been "signed" by the Jets, this was presumably a waiver claim.
The rookie Brown struggled in his first NFL game missing a couple of run blocks and getting beaten in pass protection on a play that ended up in a sack. He didn't look set to pose much of a challenge to Julian Howsare, Anthony Firkser or [insert last minute waiver claim here].
We'll have a full scouting report on Therezie tomorrow.
