Roster News: Jets sign LB Spencer Paysinger
The Jets have finally filled their open roster spot by adding veteran linebacker Spencer Paysinger.
The 28-year old has been in the league for six years since being an undrafted free agent out of Oregon in 2011. He played his first four seasons with the Giants before joining the Dolphins in 2015.
Paysinger has started 17 games in his career, including 10 in 2013. He has registered 223 tackles but just one sack, four passes defensed and one forced fumble. However, he's been a productive special teamer over the course of his career, averaging over 10 tackles per season in kick coverage. He was second in the league with 20 total special teams tackles back in 2012.
Paysinger would compete for a role at inside linebacker with the Jets and he's listed at 249 pounds so he brings decent size to the position. Most of his pro day workout numbers were about average but he did have an impressive 6.93 in the three-cone drill and has shown some aptitude in short-intermediate coverage over the course of his career.
We'll provide a more detailed breakdown of his game in due course
