Roster News: Jets sign LB Micah Awe to futures contract

The Jets made a move today:

Awe is an undersized linebacker who was undrafted out of Texas Tech in 2016. He spent camp and preseason with the Bucs in his rookie year and some time on the practice squad. However, he failed to make the active roster and ended up playing for the BC Lions in Canada.

The Nigerian-born Awe had a productive season in 2017 but was released from his contract yesterday so that he could pursue an NFL deal. In preseason action with the Bucs, he had six tackles and a quarterback hit in four games. That included two tackles on special teams, which might be where he makes his mark with the Jets.

Awe is a good athlete, who posted a 39-inch vertical jump at his pro day, along with a 4.67 40-yard dash.

We'll provide a detailed scouting report on Awe in due course...
