Roster News: Jets re-sign Foxx, Smith waived/injured
With OTAs set to kick off tomorrow, the Jets have made a roster move, re-signing wide receiver Deshon Foxx. Former second round pick Devin Smith has been waived/injured to create room on the roster.
With all of the receivers the Jets have added this offseason (free agent Quinton Patton and five rookies), it seems most likely Foxx is being brought in as a camp body.
Foxx is inexperienced at this level - just 13 preseason snaps and two short catches - but could be an option to compete for a role as a punt returner. He runs a sub-4.5 40-yard dash and began his college career as a running back.
Smith will revert to injured reserve as long as he clears waivers and the Jets will be on the hook for his salary.
