Roster News: Jets cut Carter, waive Bishop, Murphy and Vander Laan
The Jets need to clear four roster spots after the waiver claims they made today and details are starting to leak out. One surprising move saw them cut a veteran back-up and special teams contributor:
The Jets have cut veteran LB Bruce Carter, per league source.

They also reportedly cut OLB Freddie Bishop, who could be a candidate for the practice squad.
UPDATE: The final two cuts were RB/KR Marcus Murphy and TE Jason Vander Laan, whose roles have seemingly been replaced by two of the waiver claims; Kalif Raymond and Will Tye respectively. Both are eligible for the practice squad but, like Bishop, have to clear waivers first, so the Jets may leave a few spots open.
In other news, Lucky Whitehead cleared waivers and reverted to injured reserve. He'll be healthy enough to play in a few weeks so they may not leave him on the injured list all year, but if they did he would be a restricted free agent at the end of the year. If they give him an injury settlement and release him from injured reserve, they won't be able to re-sign him until six weeks after the end of the period to which the settlement relates.
