Roster News: Jets claim WR KD Cannon
The Jets made a roster move today, claiming former Baylor wide receiver KD Cannon on waivers from the 49ers per Aaron Wilson.
Cannon was an undrafted free agent signing for the 49ers, who initially paid him a $5,000 signing bonus and guaranteed $40,000 of his salary, suggesting he was a high priority for them. However, they released him at the end of rookie mini-camp in a surprising move. The Jets will assume that guarantee.
Cannon is a speedy deep threat who was one of Bryce Petty's favorite targets in 2014. He ran 4.41 at the combine and posted a 37" vertical leap. However, he's very raw, running almost exclusively go-routes, screens and hitches in Baylor's spread offense and the early release from the 49ers perhaps calls into question his character.
UPDATE: The Jets confirmed the move and announced that wide receiver Deshon Foxx was released in a corresponding move.
We'll have a full scouting report on Cannon along with the other undrafted free agents signings over the next month or so.
