Murphy is a player many Jets fans were high on during the draft in 2015. The 5'8", 195 pound 25-year old was eventually drafted by the Saints in the seventh round and played almost exclusively in a return role for them over the past two seasons.
Murphy's kick-off return numbers are unremarkable, but he averaged over nine yards per punt return in each season, with a 74-yard touchdown as a rookie. While he hasn't contributed on offense in the regular season, he has made some contributions in preseason action.
Update: The team confirmed that running back Brandon Wilds was released in a corresponding move.
We will provide an in-depth scouting report on Murphy tomorrow.
