QuickFix: Your festive gif/pun extravaganzapalooza
As a special Christmas treat tonight, instead of some boring old strategic analysis, we figured we'd have some festive fun so we're sharing some gifs from today's game by way of a recap:
O Jamal Ye Faithful
It was a mixed bag from the Jets' prized rookie this week as Jamal Adams had seven tackles, including a run stop, and a pass break-up. However, he got beaten a few times in coverage, including on a short Antonio Gates touchdown and this big play to set up the other touchdown:
Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, I made you out of Claiborne
Morris Claiborne continues to struggle as he gave up a few more first downs in coverage. Claiborne has given up 17 catches on 21 targets over the last month having given up just 24 on 44 targets prior to that. Moreover, he lost contain badly twice - once on a dump-off that went for 40 yards and also on this run:
Oh what fun it is to ride on a one-horse open Maye
Marcus Maye's day got off to a good start when he recovered an onside kick-off. His positional play was pretty solid in Sunday's game, but he did have this missed tackle:
The Qvale and the ivy
The Jets' line held up quite well considering two starters were missing from the start and another (Brandon Shell) was knocked out of the game before half time. Shell's replacement Brent Qvale struggled in the running game and was flagged for a penalty. He also gave up a pressure on this play ... although he also threw arguably the best pass by a Jets player all day:
Deck Bilal with Powells of holly
Bilal Powell had a huge day, with 145 yards and a score. Before today, the Jets were 7-0 in Powell's career when he carried the ball more than 16 times, so that streak came to an end. 119 of those yards came on three plays, one of which was this 41-yard burst which saw him cut back up the middle:
He's making a list, checking it twice, gonna find out who's Forté and nice
Disappointingly, Matt Forté let the Jets down with a costly fumble. He also only gained 26 yards on his nine touches and got beaten for a half-sack. This was an uncharacteristic turnover from the veteran:
Xavier is born
With Muhammad Wilkerson out, Xavier Cooper had a chance to make a name for himself but was pretty quiet as he was in on just a couple of tackles including a run stuff. He was also credited with a quarterback hit, but jumped offside once. He did bat down this third down pass though:
Beachum's greetings
To their credit, the Jets only gave up three sacks, although one was credited to Kelvin Beachum. Beachum's best contribution in the running game came on this zone-blocking assignment on a run that was probably supposed to go right. Powell made a good read to cut it back, as Beachum cut Joey Bosa to the ground on the move:
Christmas Steve
Finally, Steve McLendon continued his solid play with four run stops, all near the line of scrimmage, and a couple of pressures. He made a tackle for loss cleaning up in the first half and also shed his block well to stuff this run late in the game:
All the usual analysis will follow tomorrow and on boxing day, including a breakdown of the rotations, your 3-on-D and 3-on-O and more gifs and festive puns. Seasons greetings to all JetsFixers and thanks for supporting this site during its rookie year.
