Practice Recap - 6/12/24
Media was on hand for the Jets' on-field minicamp practice, their final one before training camp, today. Here's what went down according to those on hand:
- Tyron Smith got a rest day while Izzy Abanikanda did not practice after getting hurt yesterday;
- Tyler Conklin made an impressive one-handed catch in individual drills;
- Olu Fashanu was at left tackle, Carter Warren at right tackle and Wes Schweitzer at right guard with starters John Simpson and Joe Tippmann on the first unit;
- Jeremy Ruckert had a good run block on Sauce Gardner on a successful run;
- Tony Adams snuffed out a short pass in the flat to make a stop;
- Kenny Yeboah had a good block on an Isaiah Davis run to spring a good gain and then added a nice catch and run;
- Jamien Sherwood made a nice play to blow up a run;
- Irv Charles was involved in a scuffle with defensive players;
- Tyrod Taylor was perfect in 7-on-7's with one first down on a timing route to Allen Lazard over by the sideline against zone coverage but the rest were short passes;
- Zach Kuntz and Conklin were targeted down the middle in the next session. Kuntz had a drop on a good Andrew Peasley throw but Conklin made the catch in traffic. Kuntz followed up with a catch on a short pass turned upfield for positive yardage;
- Tae Hayes almost came down with an interception;
- Ruckert had a good gain on a downfield catch and run;
- Braelon Allen ran for a nice gain behind a Simpson block in 11-on-11's;
- Taylor continued to find his tight ends with consecutive completions to Conklin down the seam for 20 and to Ruckert and Yeboah on short curls;
- Peasley hit Ruckert downfield on a throw with nice touch but then couldn't connect with Kuntz down the field;
- Taylor then hit Xavier Gipson on a long catch-and-run off play action and Conklin over the middle as the defense blitzed;
- Peasley was intercepted by Qwan'tez Stiggers, who jumped a route and returned it for a score;
- Taylor hit Garrett Wilson deep for an over-the-shoulder catch working against DJ Reed;
- Deuce Carter had a nice pass break-up on Gipson and then Stiggers added another on a jump ball, in the red zone, on Lazard;
- Tarik Cohen bounced a run outside for a long touchdown; and
- Practice ended with a successful two-minute drill with Todd Downing calling plays against the back-ups which saw Reed break up one pass but Taylor hit Gipson on a crosser, Wilson on a spectacular juggling grab against Reed and a wide open Lazard in the end zone for a 10-yard score.
