Practice Recap: 5/21/24
Media was on hand for the Jets' second on-field OTA session today. Here's what went down according to those on hand:
- Breece Hall, Quinnen Williams, Solomon Thomas and Haason Reddick were not in attendance;
- Morgan Moses, John Simpson and Leki Fotu were in the rehab area;
- Mike Williams, Alijah Vera-Tucker and Jordan Travis were not on the field, presumably rehabbing inside;
- Despite recent injuries, Aaron Rodgers and Tyron Smith did participate;
- The team did some (non-contact) 11-on-11, which they don't always do during OTAs;
- Rodgers opened up with a completion to Xazavian Valladay on the first play;
- He continued to get off to a strong start as he was 2-for-2 in 11-on-11's and 5-for-5 in 7-on-7's, all on short, quick passes;
- That included a completion to Garrett Wilson in space, Allen Lazard over by the sideline and a dump-off to Xavier Gipson as good coverage forced him to check down;
- Tyrod Taylor opened up hot too, with a deep completion to Irv Charles;
- In the second session, Rodgers threaded a laser down the middle to Gipson for a 40-yard touchdown with Chuck Clark in coverage, finishing 3-for-4 with his first incompletion on another target to Gipson;
- Smith was reportedly impressive in team drills;
- Eric Watts beat Olu Fashanu for a potential sack of Taylor;
- Sauce Gardner impressively dived to break up a throw from Rodgers to Wilson;
- Wilson bounced back to come up with a tough catch with Gardner draped all over him and then a short touchdown catch from Rodgers with CJ Mosley in tight coverage;
- Malachi Corley was wide open and caught a pass from Taylor in stride; and
- Rodgers added a late touchdown to Lazard who was open in the red zone and finished up 8-for-10 in 11-v-11 drills and 5-for-5 in 7-on-7's.
