Postgame: Mayfield leads Browns to come-from-behind win over Jets
The Jets blew a 14-3 halftime lead after having knocked Tyrod Taylor from the game, with Browns rookie Baker Mayfield leading the fightback and setting up the game winning score on Carlos Hyde's second short touchdown of the day with just over two minutes left.
Mayfield outperformed Sam Darnold, who never really got into a rhythm with the Jets doing a decent job of establishing the running game, but failing to protect Darnold adequately in passing situations. Darnold completed less than 50 percent of his passes and threw two late interceptions, although he did drive the Jets into field goal range to give them a fourth quarter lead. More detail on his performance will follow tomorrow.
The Jets defense performed well for most of the first half, but that changed once Mayfield entered the game late in the first half. He ended up with over 200 passing yards as he picked apart the Jets, who mostly seemed to be in zone coverages in the second half.
It seems pretty obvious that the Browns are a much stronger outfit than over the past few years and this win probably won't seem so embarrassing once they've beaten a few more teams. Right now though, it's just another excuse for media and fans around the league to mock the Jets, which is depressing.
With Jacksonville and Denver in their next two games, the Jets are now in danger of falling into an early season hole.
We'll have much more analysis on this game tomorrow and over the weekend, so check back here early and often.
