Postgame: I do the best imitation of myself

The Jets reverted back to type on Sunday, as missed opportunities haunted them in a disheartening 20-12 loss to the Dolphins.

Having dug themselves a huge hole by falling 20-0 behind in the first half, the Jets finally woke up and pretty much dominated the rest of the way, but blew several opportunities to get back into the game until it was too late. They finally pulled within eight midway through the fourth quarter only for a Dolphins offense that had stalled for most of the second half to finally put a drive together that enabled them to run out the clock.

Sam Darnold passed for over 330 yards but he had two costly interceptions - one to set up Miami's first touchdown and another in the red zone with the Jets looking to pull within seven early in the second half. Most of his yardage came after the Jets had fallen behind by 20 anyway, but there were good and bad signs from the rookie.

The Jets couldn't run the ball though and their defense made too many mistakes with missed tackles and killer penalties helping the Dolphins control the field position for much of the game.

As many Jets fans feared, the sense that things might be different this year proved to be a mirage and the Jets threw away a game they probably should've won, much like last year's team did on a handful of occasions.

So, the Jets are still the Jets. At least there's a short turnaround before they face the Browns on Thursday night so the sour aftertaste from this game won't linger too long. Hopefully Thursday night will be better, otherwise this is shaping up to be a long season.
