Jets Training Camp Practice Recap - 8/8/24 (Joint practice with Commanders)
Media were on hand for the Jets' training camp practice today, which was the scheduled joint practice with the Washington Commanders. Here's what went down according to those on hand:
- It was raining so Robert Saleh opted to keep Aaron Rodgers out of practice;
- Mike Williams, activated from the PUP list yesterday, practiced for the first time but only did individual drills;
- Ashtyn Davis and Chris Glaser, who were knocked out of the most recent practice, returned today;
- Opening up in 7-on-7, Tyrod Taylor completed a pass to Garrett Wilson and Andrew Peasley hit a wide open Lance McCutcheon;
- Wilson lost his man down the field for a deep touchdown from Taylor;
- Taylor then hit Allen Lazard on a well-timed comebacker as the Jets offense was off to a great start;
- Zack Kuntz dropped a pass from Adrian Martinez;
- DJ Reed got beaten deep by Dyami Brown who pulled in a one-handed catch;
- The starting offensive line was working together and got off to a great start in 11-on-11's springing Breece Hall for a touchdown with good blocks by Tyron Smith, John Simpson and a pulling Joe Tippmann;
- The Jets pass rush was getting some good pressure in 11-on-11's;
- Smith and Morgan Moses both got beaten for a pressure in red zone work;
- Braelon Allen had a nice run but Malachi Corley dropped an Andrew Peasley pass;
- Taylor connected on another touchdown pass to Wilson, from seven yards with Wilson getting his feet inbounds near the pylon;
- Taylor and Wilson continued to dominate, with Wilson making a sliding first down catch and then a downfield 55-yard touchdown as he juked a DB in the open field;
- The Commanders broke a big run as Micheal Clemons got sealed inside;
- Hall got into a shoving match with a Washington player;
- Smith and Moses were pulled from the 2nd and 3rd set of team reps, presumably as a precaution as the rain worsened, and the line struggled a bit without them;
- On defense, the Jets were getting plenty of pressure with Jayden Daniels starting off 4 for 7 with a fumble;
- The Commanders TE got a big gain down the middle as Chuck Clark slipped;
- In a move-the-ball period, the Jets got off to a bad start when Taylor was sacked and Wilson had a drop;
- Lazard kept the drive going with a third down catch and then Isaiah Davis broke a long run;
- On the next drive, Tyler Conklin had a short catch and Lazard again extended the drive with a five yard catch on 4th-and-3;
- The Jets ultimately failed to score as Wilson was short of the marker on third down and ruled out of bounds on a 4th down circus catch. Taylor was 3-for-8 on the drive which included a Hall drop;
- The Commanders went four-and-out as CJ Mosley broke up a pass, Will McDonald pressured the quarterback into back-to-back incompletions and (after a first down by the tight end was called back due to a penalty) Gardner broke up a fourth down pass;
- Daniels finished up 7 for 15 with six of those completions being dump-offs;
- The backups had a good two-minute drill highlighted by a Peasley to Corley first down pass on a corner route;
- Jamien Sherwood made a couple of plays on the Washington backups' drive; and
- Despite getting into range, the Commanders missed a field goal to end practice.
