Jets Training Camp Practice Recap - 8/6/24

Media were on hand for the Jets' training camp practice today. Here's what went down according to those on hand:

  • The Jets were in full pads once again;
  • Xavier Gipson and Tyron Smith were back in practice, although Smith sat out the team drills;
  • Deuce Carter remained out, working in the rehab area with Takk McKinley, Malik Taylor and Jake Hanson;
  • With Olu Fashanu blocking well at left tackle, Breece Hall took a pitch for a big gain on the first play of the team session;
  • The next play was a completion from Aaron Rodgers to Braelon Allen;
  • Ashtyn Davis had a good hit on Allen;
  • Alijah Vera-Tucker false-started and was replaced;
  • Rodgers threw incomplete to Allen Lazard downfield, with Jamien Sherwood dropping deep to cover him;
  • Sherwood also had an impressive run stop;
  • Will McDonald beat Max Mitchell to blow up a running play;
  • Joe Tippmann and Marcelino McCrary-Ball got into a big skirmish after a hard hit at the end of a run by Xazavian Valladay by the sideline. Brady Latham's helmet was ripped off in the scuffle which involved half the team;
  • After the fight, Tippmann was looked at by trainers with Wes Schweitzer replacing him on the first unit, but Tippmann returned soon afterwards;
  • Rodgers scrambled and threw across his body to Gipson, who beat Brandin Echols for a first down;
  • DJ Reed and Garrett Wilson got into it after an incomplete pass;
  • Tyrod Taylor hit Malachi Corley downfield after a great route;
  • Micheal Clemons was involved in a third scuffle, after which Robert Saleh brought the team together to calm everyone down;
  • Andrew Peasley's completion to Lincoln Sefcik led to a fumble, forced by Kendall Sheffield and returned for a score by Qwan'tez Stiggers;
  • Eric Watts had another sack;
  • Isaiah Winstead had a touchdown from Adrian Martinez on a catch-and-run;
  • Martinez hit Hamze El-Zayat for an over the shoulder catch in tight coverage on a great throw;
  • Davis and Chris Glaser left practice with apparent injuries;
  • Rodgers was sacked on back-to-back plays with McDonald, Javon Kinlaw and CJ Mosley in the mix. McDonald beat Morgan Moses on a speed rush;
  • Rodgers hit Wilson down the field on third down;
  • Solomon Thomas beat Moses for another sack;
  • Rodgers hit Wilson again, this time on a slant against Sauce Gardner;
  • Mosley blew up another run, then drew a holding penalty to negate a big play;
  • Reed forced an incompletion with good coverage on a fade to Wilson;
  • Leonard Taylor penetrated the pocket to deflect a Peasley pass;
  • Hall got open in space for a big catch and run;
  • Jayln Holmes had a sack; and
  • Lazard had three catches in a row from Taylor at the end of practice, including one where he leapt over Reed in a two-minute drill.
