Jets Training Camp Practice Recap - 8/13/24

Media were on hand for the Jets' training camp practice today. Here's what went down according to those on hand:

  • The Jets were back in pads with fans in the house;
  • Tyron Smith sat out the team drills again, but Morgan Moses remained in;
  • Deuce Carter and Jeremy Ruckert also did not practice;
  • Aaron Rodgers' first pass of the day was incomplete to Garrett Wilson with Sauce Gardner covering and Chuck Clark also in the area;
  • The defense then stuffed two running plays. Javon Kinlaw blew up the first and then Jermaine Johnson made a tackle in the backfield as Xavier Gipson got the carry;
  • Rodgers then threw incomplete to Allen Lazard with Gardner again in coverage and then Jalyn Holmes blew up another run;
  • The second team had better luck with big plays by Malachi Corley (on a toss from Tyrod Taylor) and Isaiah Davis;
  • Adrian Martinez found a wide open Xazavian Valladay downfield for a touchdown, although Takk McKinley might have had a sack on the play;
  • Johnson beat Moses for a sack on the next series;
  • Rodgers escaped the pocket and threw on the run to Gipson for 20 but then had a pass off Tyler Conklin's hands;
  • Jaylen Key disrupted a pass from Taylor to Corley;
  • Davis beat Jamien Sherwood to catch a pass from Taylor for a big gain;
  • Holmes had another good pressure;
  • After a quick completion to Lazard, Rodgers caused Will McDonald to jump offside and then used the free play to hit a 50+ yard touchdown to Wilson, over Brandin Echols;
  • After that play, Rodgers scrambled for a first down;
  • Stiggers broke up a pass from Taylor to Jason Brownlee;
  • In a drive-the-field drill, Breece Hall caught a pass and trucked Quincy Williams in the open field;
  • Rodgers then completed a quick pass to Conklin and another to Hall before finding Corley in space for a decent gain on a catch and run;
  • Rodgers was 8-for-9 on a 12-play drive to set up a field goal with Clark breaking up a third down pass to Corley in the end zone. Gipson, Braelon Allen and Wilson (twice) also had catches on the drive;
  • Irv Charles had a contested catch on a Taylor throw, then Brownlee made a leaping catch before Charles caught a 10-yard touchdown against Stiggers at the back pylon;
  • On the next first team drive, Allen got a heavy workload as he was first stuffed by Chazz Surratt but then targeted twice with the first incomplete and the next one complete for a first down. Allen then ran for another first down;
  • Clemons then had a sack but Rodgers ran for another first down on the next play;
  • This time the drive was successfully completed on a short touchdown from Rodgers to Wilson. The pair also connected on a back shoulder throw with Gardner covering a few plays before that;
  • Andrew Peasley got a drive that featured a long Valladay run and a completion to Isaiah Winstead, who beat Tre Swilling;
  • Adrian Martinez also got a drive which featured a 4th down completion to Brandon Smith and a side-arm toss to Kuntz for a decent gain with Eric Watt pressuring;
  • A third drive saw Rodgers launch a 37-yard deep ball to Lazard against Gardner;
  • Lazard, Wilson and Hall had catches to get the ball into the red zone;
  • This drive was again completed on a Rodgers to Hall fade over Mosley;
  • Rodgers then hit Corley for the two-point conversion. The game situation had been 62 seconds to go, down eight, and there was four seconds left when Hall scored. Rodgers ended up 21-of-30 with three scores;
  • Charles then scored another touchdown on a deep pass into double coverage in the end zone from Taylor; and
  • Peasley also completed a successful drive, ending it himself on a keeper for the score.
