Jets Practice Recap - Joint Practice #1 with the Eagles
The Jets were on the practice field on Tuesday for the first of two scheduled joint practices with Friday night's preseason opponent, the Philadelphia Eagles.
Here's what else went down during practice, based on media reports and tweets from those in attendance:
- Rookies Elijah Moore and Alijah Vera-Tucker made their return from injury;
- Morgan Moses and Blessuan Austin, who missed Saturday's game for personal reasons, were back;
- Sheldon Rankins, Denzel Mims, Jabari Zuniga, Chuma Edoga and Justin Hardee were in the rehab area and Mike White was in pads but sat out;
- Lamarcus Joyner also did not practice;
- Noah Dawkins got more first team reps along with Jamien Sherwood and CJ Mosley;
- James Morgan worked as the number two quarterback;
- In one-on-one drills, Wilson had deep completions to Jeff Smith and Lawrence Cager and Manasseh Bailey beat Steven Nelson on an impressive route;
- Hall got spun around by Devonta Smith in one-on-ones and then was in tight coverage downfield but still allowed a one-handed catch;
- The pocket collapsed and Wilson was sacked on the first snap of team drills;
- Mekhi Becton left the field early on in team drills because he was sick and George Fant took over at left tackle. After practice Robert Saleh said Becton was removed as a precaution and is being evaluated for a concussion;
- Morgan Moses was beaten for a strip sack on Wilson's second dropback;
- In the first passing period, Wilson hit on a shovel pass to Wesco and then had first down connections to Vyncint Smith, Ace Carter and Corey Davis;
- He then stretched this to seven completions in a row, hitting Jamison Crowder and DJ Montgomery for good gains, but then a safety broke up his pass to Jeff Smith in the end zone;
- Grant Hermanns got some first team reps in place of Fant;
- The Eagles offense had a few big plays, one on a busted coverage and one on a jump ball over Brandin Echols;
- Austin had a good pass breakup down the field;
- Wilson got the Eagles to jump offside three times;
- The Jets attempt to drive the field was ruined when Dan Feeney gave up back to back sacks after a Wilson pass to Chris Herndon and a Tevin Coleman first down run;
- Brandon Graham beat a Moses and Wesco double team to blow up a run;
- Wilson connected with Moore on a corner route for 25 over the top but then a Ty Johnson fumble ended the drive;
- On a two-minute drill, Hall had two pass interference penalties and Deuce Carter got picked on a short touchdown pass;
- The Jets' starters went three and out as Wilson was sacked on third down;
- The backups failed to score too, as Josh Johnson was intercepted; and
- Echols injured himself breaking up a pass at the end of practice. Saleh said he landed on his hip.
The teams practice together again at the same time tomorrow.
