Jets get humiliatingly blown out by one point
The final score of tonight's game was 32-31 to the Giants, but that doesn't begin to tell the story.
The Jets were simply terrible in the first quarter. Nothing went right as they gained zero yards and fell behind 19-0. Things didn't get much better in the second quarter and they trailed 29-3 at the half. A spirited second half comeback fell short when the Jets failed on a late two-point conversion.
The main headline from this game is that Leonard Williams was injured but Todd Bowles said after the game it's just a "sore wrist". Christian Hackenberg's struggles in his second consecutive start are a big deal though. Hackenberg threw two pick-sixes in an embarrassingly sloppy first half performance that proves unequivocally that he isn't ready to play at this level yet.
Bryce Petty had an excellent second half against back-ups, passing for 250 yards and three touchdowns, but then he left the game late in the fourth quarter with a knee injury. Hackenberg re-entered and bounced back from his earlier issues to lead a touchdown drive, but Elijah McGuire was ruled not to have broken the plane on the game-winning two-point conversion attempt.
Obviously, most of the bright spots from this game came in the second half but Sheldon Richardson had a decent game and Matt Forté looked sharp. ArDarius Stewart caught two touchdown passes and Bilal Powell had over 100 yards receiving after half-time.
