Jets Camp Practice Recap - 8/9/23 (Joint Practice w/Panthers)
Media was on hand for the Jets' joint practice with the Panthers today. Here's what went down according to those on hand:
- Carl Lawson missed his third straight practice with a back injury and Sauce Gardner was held out as a precaution due to a quad issue;
- Garrett Wilson was limited and didn't participate in team drills while Bryce Hall, Chazz Surratt and Carter Warren all missed practice;
- Jason Brownlee had a head injury in 7-on-7's but later returned;
- Zach Wilson threw a pick-six in 7-on-7's as his no-look pass was off Kenny Yeboah's hands;
- Aaron Rodgers fared better as he was 5-for-7 with three completions including a touchdown to Allen Lazard. One of his incompletions was a Jeremy Ruckert drop;
- Max Mitchell allowed Brian Burns to beat him around the edge for a sack of Rodgers and the offensive line generally struggled with a few penalties;
- Mekhi Becton had a good day, which included a pancake block in pass protection as he worked with the twos and threes;
- Brandin Echols, working with the starters in place of Gardner, came up with an interception on a juggled Bryce Young throw and ran it back for a score;
- Lazard scored on a long Rodgers pass due to a blown coverage in 11-on-11s;
- A big hit by new signing Sam Eguavoen led to a minor scuffle;
- Quinnen Williams was dominant against the Panthers' interior;
- Tony Adams had a big hit and a forced fumble;
- John Franklin-Myers had a sack of Young in the move the ball period;
- Despite this, Young went 5-for-7 and led the Panthers to a field goal. Jordan Whitehead was beaten by Adam Thielen for a big play;
- The Jets' starters didn't fare as well with Rodgers completing one of three passes and going three-and-out;
- Practice ended when Wilson, having just underthrown Brownlee on the previous play, threw a pick-six; and
- After practice, offensive players including Rodgers, Corey Davis and Connor McGovern expressed frustration about how the offense performed.
