Jets Camp Practice Recap - 7/31/23
Media was on hand for the Jets' training camp practice today. Here's what went down according to those on hand:
- Corey Davis was back at practice after missing yesterday due to illness, but did not participate. Garrett Wilson was absent again but John Franklin-Myers returned to practice;
- In a rare 7-on-7 period Aaron Rodgers only completed one of four passes after an Allen Lazard drop and a miscommunication with Mecole Hardman;
- Wes Schweitzer was working at center with the first unit while Connor McGovern suited up with the twos. Schweitzer had two bad shotgun snaps though;
- Rodgers hit Hardman in stride for a long catch and run down the sideline;
- Tim Boyle picked up good yardage on a crosser to Xavier Gipson;
- Carl Lawson beat Billy Turner for at least three sacks;
- Rodgers went 4-for-6 in a team period despite a Bam Knight drop. He hit on a nice gain to Jeremy Ruckert down the field and a crosser to Lazard in stride;
- Jimmy Moreland had a pick-six after a Chris Streveler pass was off Zack Kuntz's hands;
- Sauce Gardner was in position downfield on an incomplete deep ball from Rodgers to Lazard;
- Randall Cobb had his first catch of camp from Rodgers;
- Will McDonald got past Mekhi Becton on a speed rush in team drills but Becton also had plenty of wins in a good matchup between the pair;
- Izzy Abanikanda had a long run with the second unit, while Knight was impressing with the ones. Abanikanda also lost a fumble;
- A drive the field period for the first team offense ended when Tony Adams made a leaping interception following an incompletion and a false start; and
- Practice ended when Rodgers hit Lazard on a crosser for a touchdown in red zone work. Rodgers still ended up completing less than half of his pass attempts though.
