Jets Camp Practice Recap: 7/21/23
Media was on hand for the Jets' training camp practice today. Here's what went down according to those on hand:
- After taking a personal day yesterday, Duane Brown was again not at practice;
- Will McDonald worked over at the side with a sleeve on this right leg;
- The following players got work in the return drills: Bam Knight, Xavier Gipson, Izzy Abanikanda, Travis Dye, Mecole Hardman and new signing Alex Erickson;
- The team session began sloppily with two false starts and an Abanikanda drop but then Aaron Rodgers connected on a short pass to Nick Bawden (stopped by Adrian Amos) and a throw over the middle to Corey Davis;
- On his first series, Zach Wilson misfired a few times before connecting with Zack Kuntz, although that may have been a Bryce Huff sack;
- Mekhi Becton worked with the second unit at left tackle again and apparently looked good, although Micheal Clemons beat him once for a pressure;
- Ace Carter was getting lots of first team work and apparently looked good;
- Rodgers had an incompletion on a deep throw to Allen Lazard but then hit Garrett Wilson on a skinny post with Sauce Gardner covering and connected with UDFA Jason Brownlee who made a sideline catch;
- Dye made some catches out of the backfield including one on a play where Wilson stepped up well;
- Carl Lawson beat Billy Turner for a sack;
- Tony Adams made a great play to range across and break up a potential touchdown pass from Rodgers to Hardman;
- Craig James also had a nice downfield break-up;
- In red zone work, Lazard, Carter and Wilson all dropped potential touchdowns from Rodgers who ended up 8-for-13 on the day;
- Al Woods blew up an Abanikanda run as defense dominated for the second day in a row;
- Irvin Charles was banged up near the end of practice ; and
- Practice ended on a Chris Streveler touchdown pass.
