Injury update: Several players return after contact tracing
The Jets released their second injury report of the week:
#Jets Thurs. Injury Report:
— Dennis Waszak Jr. (@DWAZ73) December 31, 2020
DNP: Austin (precautionary)
LP: Guidry (knee), JSmith (shoulder)
Everyone else was full, including the other 5 players held out Wed as a precaution (Edoga, Franklin-Myers, Hall, Hewitt, Maye)
Guidry's return is good news and Austin's absence was apparently a non-Covid related illness but he's expected to be okay.
Head coach Adam Gase said that Alex Lewis probably won't play on Sunday despite his return to practice so we can expect the returning Greg Van Roten to fill in at right guard with Connor McDermott backing up.
If the Jets have any roster spots left over, they can sign some players from the practice squad to deals that run through 2021 even if they have no intention to make them active. This will prevent the need to sign them to futures deals after the season.
New England saw Devin McCourty return to practice while Justin Bethel was added to the report:
