Injury Update: Forté ruled OUT, Stewart tweaks groin
The Jets have officially ruled Matt Forté out for Sunday's game and ESPN's Rich Cimini has been implying that there is concern his injury could be a longer term problem for the veteran.
With Forté out, Bilal Powell and Elijah McGuire will have to handle the load in the running game. The Jets also had Travaris Cadet the last time Forté was hurt, so they may even add someone, especially if the injury is expected to last more than a week.
Reserve defensive lineman Ed Stinson has also been ruled out. It was a curious move by the Jets to bring Stinson back earlier this week only for him to remain out with the neck injury that has been troubling him since he was here the first time. A few days ago, Todd Bowles had said he expected him back by the end of the week.
The Jets shouldn't need to add any reinforcements on the line because they already added Xavier Cooper a few weeks ago and have Lawrence Thomas back and available to play there in an emergency.
Five Jets were listed as questionable, including Muhammad Wilkerson once again. Presumably his status is the same as in recent weeks so he would be expected to play.
Brian Winters and Morris Claiborne were also listed as questionable, but there is optimism that both will play as they've each done more during practice as the week has gone on.
ArDarius Stewart, who the Jets are counting on to step up with Jeremy Kerley suspended, apparently tweaked his groin in practice and is also questionable. This puts a lot of pressure on Chad Hansen and leaves the Jets lacking in depth. This could be somewhere they opt to make a roster move too, especially since they have three receivers - two of whom can contribute in the return game - on the practice squad.
The other player listed as questionable is Jonotthan Harrison, who hurt his hand. Dakota Dozier can back up at center if needed.
As for Tampa Bay, defensive lineman Robert Ayers and tackles Demar Dotson and Donovan Smith all returned to practice today after a few days out. Dotson is the Bucs' best offensive lineman and Ayers is their best defensive end. Their other starting end, William Gholston, has already been ruled out.
