Injury News: Maye could have season-ending Achilles tear
One major loss from last night:
From last night:
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) November 5, 2021
— #Jets safety Marcus Maye is feared to have torn his Achilles, which would mean he’s out for the season. Coach Robert Saleh said, “It doesn’t look good.”
— #Jets QB Mike White said his forearm was feeling better by the end. He should be ok when he’s called on.
This is particularly rough on Maye who had been seeking a long-term deal and will be 29 when free agency opens next year. Add to that his off-field issues and the threat of a potential suspension and this could have a serious effect on his market.
Without Maye, the Jets will presumably stick with Ashtyn Davis and Sharrod Neasman as their starters. Jarrod Wilson is currently also on the 53-man roster and Natrell Jamerson is on the practice squad. Experimenting with a position change for a young defensive back like Isaiah Dunn, Jason Pinnock or Javelin Guidry could also be explored.
The news on White is more promising but it's anyone's guess as to who starts the Buffalo game, for which the Jets now have 10 days to prepare. We'll update on the status of White and Zach Wilson in the lead-up to the game.
