How the hell am I supposed to know who this is? - Aaron Rodgers
In an occasional feature, we briefly highlight any of the lesser-known players that make an unexpected impact during camp, preseason or the regular season.
Today, we focus on quarterback Aaron Rodgers:
What he did:
Rodgers had an efficient practice, completing 13 of 15 passes in both 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 action. He was mostly just connecting on short passes, spreading the ball around to a variety of receivers, but did also hit Xavier Gipson downfield on a 40-yard touchdown pass.
He had two other touchdowns in red zone work, to Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard.
Outlook:
After a nightmare first season with the Jets in 2023, which saw him finish up equal last on the team with zero passing yards, also posting a career-worst quarterback rating, Rodgers looks like a good bet to lock down a starting role in 2024.
In all seriousness, though, it's good to see Rodgers back and positive to see him get off to such a strong start, especially in circumstances where Jets fans are used to seeing the defense taking over.
Rodgers displayed some good chemistry with Wilson last season and there are already signs that this is still there, even with Sauce Gardner covering him.
Let's hope it continues into - and throughout - the 2024 season.
