How ex-Jets players got on in week three of the XFL
Week three of XFL took place this weekend with ratings reportedly down 30% last week. However, let's check out how some of the ex-Jets fared in week three action.
Houston Roughnecks 34 Tampa Bay Vipers 27
Houston got the win in this exciting game with linebacker Edmond Robinson playing a key role. He had a solo run stuff and was in on four other tackles, including three that went for a loss. Defensive lineman Kony Ealy had two solo run stuffs and was in on a stop in the backfield.
For the Vipers, wide receiver Daniel Williams only caught two passes on seven targets but that included a 20-yard touchdown on a receiver screen. He also made a nice leaping catch for a two-point conversion. Also, punter Jacob Schum had an impressive 68-yard punt downed inside the five.
Dallas Renegades 24 Seattle Dragons 12
This week, safety Godwin Igwebuike made the biggest impact with the Dragons as he racked up seven tackles, a pass break-up and an interception.
Ex-Jets contributed throughout Seattle's secondary as Marko Myers had five tackles and Santos Ramirez had three, including one each on special teams. Ramirez combined with Jeremy Clark for a touchdown-saving tackle on a goal-line stand, although Clark only had one other tackle and was banged up down the stretch. Jacquies Smith added two tackles for the Dragons.
At quarterback, Brandon Silvers again had a mixed afternoon as he ended up with 204 yards and two touchdowns but also threw an interception.
Darius Phillips had two tackles including one special teams tackle for the Renegades.
New York Guardians 9 St Louis Battlehawks 29
Fewer ex-Jets played in this game than the other three, but a trio of defensive backs made contributions for the Battlehawks. Robert Nelson had three tackles, David Rivers had two tackles and a pass break-up and Harold Jones-Quartey had two tackles on special teams.
TJ Barnes was in on one tackle for the struggling Guardians, although it was a tackle for loss.
DC Defenders 9 LA Wildcats 39
This was another blow-out, keyed by an ex-Jets duo as Josh Johnson connected on two long touchdowns to Tre McBride. McBride finished with 109 yards on five catches before leaving midway through the third quarter with a head injury. Johnson was impressive as he ended up with 278 yards and three touchdowns. Ex-Jets tight end Brandon Barnes added two catches for 29 yards and Taiwan Jones had six tackles for the Wildcats.
For the Defenders, Jonathan Celestin had four tackles including one for a loss and Shamarko Thomas added two tackles and a pass break-up but also had a pass interference penalty.
