Final: Jets fall 21-12 to Bills in season opener
The Jets were competitive into the fourth quarter but their inability to stop the run and a series of coverage breakdowns plagued them all day. The Bills rushed for 190 yards and converted three short touchdowns in the red zone to secure the win.
Offensively, the Jets couldn't run the ball, so they used a quick passing game most of the time, with some mild success. Josh McCown was efficient, but averaged less than five yards per attempt and threw a couple of picks in the fourth quarter as the Jets were forced to take more chances.
After McCown's quarterback sneak brought the Jets within two late in the third quarter, the Jets failed on a two-point conversion and the Bills were able to drive downfield for another score to make it a two-possession game.
While we had every expectation that this season was going to be a grind, that didn't make this loss any easier to watch, as the Jets let themselves down with elementary mistakes, much as they did last season.
The Jets are on the road again next week, facing off against the Oakland Raiders who beat the Titans today.
We'll have plenty of in-depth analysis for you tonight (yes, tonight) and throughout the day tomorrow.
