DraftFix: Pro Days - UCF, Louisville, Utah, West Virginia
Over the last few weeks, we've been updating you on how draft prospects are faring at most of the main pro day workouts.
Central Florida
Wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith wanted to show off his hands after reading criticism that he isn't a hands catcher online. He only had one drop - on a poorly thrown ball. Cornerback Mike Hughes also showed off good hands in drills.
Tight end Jordan Akins, an older prospect, caught the ball well and did well in the bench press (29 reps) and broad jump (122"). The Jets are among the teams apparently showing interest in him.
Linebacker Shaquem Griffin once again stole the headlines with a 37.5" vertical jump and the revelation that he's been invited to the draft.
Louisville
Lamar Jackson's eagerly anticipated pro day was a bit of a letdown as he opted just to do a throwing session. His decision not to run and to enter the draft without an agent has drawn criticism, but his throwing session was apparently impressive.
Cornerback Jaire Alexander could end up being the first Louisville player to be selected. He was pleased with his workout.
Offensive lineman Geron Christian, a raw mid-round prospect with potential, also worked out as a center.
Linebacker James Hearns felt he had improved on a poor combine performance.
Southern Methodist
Wide receiver Courtland Sutton was the main attraction, although Jason Garrett was the only head coach on hand to see him. After a great combine, he stuck with most of his combine numbers. He didn't improve his vertical jump but added two inches to his broad jump.
Pass rusher Justin Lawler's numbers were disappointing as his 40-time was over five seconds. His short shuttle was an average 4.41 seconds.
Wide receiver Trey Quinn ran a 4.45 40-yard dash to shave a tenth off his combine mark.
Southern Mississippi
Running back Ito Smith impressed with a 4.49 40-yard dash, 37" vertical and 22 bench press reps.
Wide receiver Korey Robertson skipped a few events having already competed at the combine. He wanted teams to focus on his route running in drills and looked good catching passes.
Safety Tarvarius Moore turned heads with a 4.32 40-yard dash, 6.89 three cone drill, 39.5" vertical and 133" broad jump. He also shined in drills and reportedly has an official visit set up with the Jets.
Utah
Kylie Fitts, an edge rusher who is probably Utah's best prospect, impressed in drills at 265 pounds. He had a great combine.
Wide receiver Darren Carrington ran a 40-yard dash in the 4.4 range and impressed in positional drills. He also had a 35.5" vertical.
Defensive tackle Lowell Lotulelei reportedly posted poor explosiveness numbers at 326 and only ran a 5.3 40-yard dash.
Offensive lineman Salesi Uhatafe weighed in at 310 pounds and posted 20 bench press reps and a 27.5" vertical.
West Virginia
Safety Kyzir White didn't do a full workout at the combine but he did more yesterday, posting pretty much average numbers across the board. His broad jump of 122" inches was a nine inch improvement on his poor mark at the combine.
Wide receiver Justin Crawford only managed to get his 40-yard dash time down from 4.64 to 4.60 and posted below average agility scores in a disappointing day.
Kyzir's brother Ka'Raun White opted to stick with most of his combine numbers but improved on his bad agility scores from Indianapolis. His short shuttle was still below average but his three cone was above average. White played cornerback last year but, athletically, he may profile more like a safety.
