Countdown to the draft: 3 days to go
The 2022 draft is almost here and we're counting down the days...
With the 3rd pick
Until a few years ago, the Jets' only contributors in franchise history that were taken third overall were two of their best ever running backs, Freeman McNeil and Matt Snell.
In recent years, they also drafted Sam Darnold and Quinnen Williams with the third overall pick. The Darnold pick didn't work out but the team still holds out hope for Williams.
Three years ago
The 2019 draft took place under strange circumstances with the general manager, Mike Maccagnan, and head coach Adam Gase apparently not on the same page. Eventually the Jets took Williams with the third pick, but the only other two picks still on the team are Chuma Edoga and Trevon Wesco.
In the 3rd round
The Jets picked some great long-term contributors over the years in the third round, including Mickey Shuler, Mo Lewis and Kyle Clifton.
The Super Bowl III winning team also made good use of the third round to build their excellent defensive line. Both Gerry Philbin and Verlon Biggs were third round picks.
Number 3s in the draft
None of the players to wear number 3 in team history were drafted. In fact, kicker Bobby Howfield, who was probably the best, didn't even make his NFL debut until he was in his thirties.
