Countdown to the draft: 10 days to go
The 2022 draft is almost here and we're counting down the days...
With the 10th pick
The Jets currently have the 10th pick in the 2022 draft but they'd do well to beat their best ever pick at that slot: Wide receiver Al Toon, a three-time pro bowler who led the league in receptions in 1988.
They also picked a hall of famer at 10 in 1961, but unfortunately Herb Adderley never played for them.
The other number 10 pick in Jets history was cornerback Russell Carter, who had an encouraging rookie season with four interceptions and three sacks but faded over the next three years.
The 2012 draft was not a good one for the Jets. After showing early promise, top pick Quinton Coples was gone following four disappointing seasons. Stephen Hill was another major disappointment. The best pick was Demario Davis, who has developed into one of the league's best linebackers, albeit with the Saints. Safety Antonio Allen was basically they only other contributor.
In the 10th round
The Jets didn't have much success drafting in the 10th round when the draft used to go that deep. They got some short-term secondary depth from Kerry Glenn and John Booty but the best 10th round pick in team history was Guy Bingham, a rotational offensive lineman who started 32 games in nine years for the team.
Number 10s in the draft
The best number 10 in team history was clearly Chad Pennington, who was drafted by the team with the 18th overall pick and holds the distinction of being one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history to never go to a pro bowl.
