Countdown to Camp: 83
As we look ahead to training camp in late July, we're going to take a daily retrospective look back at some random people, moments and games from Jets history...
The Current 83
Eric Tomlinson is a useful blocker, but last year also showed a knack for leaking out for big plays in the passing game. With all the other tight ends they Jets have brought in this offseason - including fourth round pick Chris Herndon - his roster spot isn't entirely secure, but he's easily the best blocker they have at the position which should make him essential to their plans if he stays healthy.
The Greatest
In six years with the Jets, wide receiver George Sauer was a four-time AFL all-star and posted three thousand-yard seasons. While he was overshadowed by Don Maynard during most of his career, it was Sauer who put up a 100-yard game in Super Bowl III while a banged-up Maynard was little more than a decoy.

The '83 season
After their run to the 1982 AFC title game, the 1983 season was a huge letdown. The team began 4-7, although they then won three in a row to get back into contention. However they then got blown out in their last two games.
Mark Gastineau was an all-pro again after racking up 19 sacks and Joe Klecko went to another pro bowl but Lance Mehl - who wasn't voted to the pro bowl - was the team MVP after intercepting seven passes. On offense, tackle Marvin Powell was the standout as he went to his fifth pro bowl in a row.
83 yards to paydirt
Wesley Walker was a constant big play threat and he came up with this 83-yard touchdown as the Jets blew out Seattle in 1986. The win was the Jets' eighth in a row:
