Countdown to Camp: 51

As we look ahead to training camp in late July, we're going to take a daily retrospective look back at some random people, moments and games from Jets history...

The Current 51

Brandon Copeland looked to be joining the team with a great opportunity to add to the inside linebacker depth off the bench. However, they've since added a few more guys he's going to have to beat out to make the team. Copeland has also played on the edge but isn't really a pass rushing threat there.

The Greatest

Linebacker Ralph Baker is another of the Jets' Super Bowl III heroes. Although never an all-star, he was a valuable contributor with 19 interceptions in 11 seasons as a Jet.

The other 51's

The 1967 Jets got off to a great start at 7-2-1 but they ended up just 8-5-1. We detailed that earlier in our countdown, here.

51-yard touchdown

Back when we still had hopes that Stephen Hill would be a breakout at wide receiver, he contributed this 51-yarder against the Bills in 2013:

51 on the scoreboard

In 1986, the Jets had one of their most memorable regular season wins, 51-45 against the Dolphins in overtime. Ken O'Brien and Dan Marino combined to pass for 927 yards and 10 touchdowns with Wesley Walker catching a team-record four including the last second-tying score and the winning play in overtime.

Let us know if there's any connections to 51 that we missed...
