Countdown to Camp: 1

As we look ahead to training camp in late July, we're taking a daily retrospective look back at some random people, moments and games from Jets history...

The Current 1

Terrelle Pryor was given the number one jersey after being signed in the offseason, although it's possible he'll change that. Pryor wore 17 initially in Cleveland, so perhaps he'll take that if Charone Peake gets cut. Alternatively, 19 was just freed up by Devin Smith's release. Pryor's time as a Jet has got off to a slow start after he missed the organized team activities due to injury but if he can return to the form that saw him register a thousand-yard receiving season in 2016 he'll be a huge pick-up for the Jets.

The Greatest

Despite being derided as one of the dumbest draft picks in Jets history, Mike Nugent has carved out a decent career for himself. He wasn't great as a Jet but still the most successful player to wear the number one jersey in his four seasons as their placekicker.

Here is Nugent showcasing his skills:

The other 1's

Mike Adamle*, Matt Turk, Mike Vick...

Last year, the Jets were supposed to be "historically bad" especially on offense. However, they won three games in a row to move to 3-2 on the year and shut up the critics.

They were competitive all season, blowing a number of winnable games, until quarterback Josh McCown went down and the team struggled with Bryce Petty at the helm losing their last four to end up 5-11 again.

No Jet went to the pro bowl, but Robby Anderson had a breakout year, falling just short of a thousand-yard season and leading the team with seven touchdowns.

1-yard touchdown

Chad Pennington scored perhaps the most enjoyable one-yard touchdown in team history:

One finger

Perhaps the most iconic image in team history was Joe Namath leaving the field with one finger raised after the Jets proved that they were number one by beating the Colts in Super Bowl III.

One catch, one yard

In 2000, the Jets faced Keyshawn Johnson's Bucs in Tampa. Johnson had been traded in the offseason and had made disrespectful comments about Jets receiver Wayne Chrebet. He ended up with just one catch for one yard, as the Jets won a wild game in come from behind fashion. Chrebet got the last laugh, catching the winning touchdown on a halfback option from Curtis Martin.

One-handed catches

Let's have some fun with some great one-handed catches from Jets history. Whose was the best?

Was it Chrebet?

Or Al Toon?

How about Jermaine Kearse?

Or perhaps Brandon Marshall?

Then you have Jerricho Cotchery...

But what about Quincy Enunwa?
