Combine Buzz: Jets looking at running back options
The running backs will be taking the field for drills and workouts today, but they're already making a splash. Penn State's Saquon Barley - a possible top five pick - showed up heavier than expected at 233 pounds and then posted 29 bench press reps to lead his position group.
Inevitably, the Jets beat has been looking into which backs have met with the team, although this may not mean much because they may have plans to schedule an official visit with anyone they don't meet - or perhaps already connected with them at the senior bowl in some cases.
However, for what it's worth, backs they have met with include Chris Warren and Kerryon Johnson but not Ronald Jones.
With Matt Forté's retirement, the Jets might also show interest in some veterans to platoon with Bilal Powell. Here's one possibility:
#Jets interested in ex-#Giants running back Orleans Darkwa, source says https://t.co/VVQQ4gfCaR

Darkwa is a 26-year old who rushed for a career high 751 yards and five touchdowns last year with the Giants. He also caught 19 passes.
There was also this from Calvin Watkins of Newsday:
Expect the Jets to be in play for RB Damien Williams. He didn't get a lot of touches last year for the Dolphins.

In non-running back news, cornerback Morris Claiborne will reportedly have 8-10 suitors if he hits free agency and tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins' representatives should be meeting with the Jets in a few days. There was also a report that Kirk Cousins may be seeking a "short-term deal" in free agency.
