The Jets haven't yet confirmed reports that quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates will be the new offensive coordinator but this is another change that could damage the continuity on offense.
There are reports that former Detroit Lions quarterback coach Brian Callahan will interview for Bates' old job, which would seem to confirm that the Bates promotion is happening. It's possible the Jets will bring in a running game coordinator - or perhaps promote running backs coach Stump Mitchell into that role.
UPDATE: A NY Daily News report suggests that former Bills offensive coordinator Rick Dennison - who worked with Bates in Denver - has been approached about the running game co-ordinator role. He has been an offensive line coach in the past, so may also be in discussions to take on Marshall's duties.
The offensive line struggled this year, but Marshall and former offensive coordinator John Morton were initially praised for how they managed to scheme around a perceived lack of talent.
While Brandon Shell has developed into a starter, most of the players who contributed this year were brought in from other teams, so Marshall perhaps hasn't developed enough talent over the last few years. However, the Jets haven't used a day one or day two pick on an offensive lineman since they selected Brian Winters in the third round five years ago, so he hasn't had a lot to work with.
UPDATE: An ESPN report also suggests the Jets will be hiring former Titans assistant DB coach Steve Jackson to replace the departing Daylon McCutcheon in the same role.
