Coaching News: The Jets finally announce their coaching staff
The Jets have at last announced their full coaching staff.
This includes the names that had already been announced:
Dowell Loggains (offensive coordinator/quarterbacks), Gregg Williams (defensive coordinator) and Brant Boyer (special teams coordinator);
Names which had been reported/rumored but not yet confirmed:
Shawn Jefferson — Assistant Head Coach Offense/Wide Receivers, Frank Pollack — Offensive Line, Derek Frazier — Assistant Offensive Line, Frank Bush — Assistant Head Coach Defense/Inside Linebackers, Blake Williams — Defensive Assistant;
And some new names, we hadn't heard reported anywhere:
Jim Bob Cooter — Running Backs, John Dunn — Tight Ends, Bo Hardegree — Offensive Assistant, Andre Carter — Defensive Line, Joe Vitt — Senior Defensive Assistant/Outside Linebackers, Eric Sanders — Defensive Assistant
As well as some other returning faces from last year's staff:
Dennard Wilson - DB coach/passing game coordinator, Steve Jackson - Assistant DBs coach, Jeff Hammerschmidt - Assistant special teams coach, Robby Brown - Defensive assistant. Justus Galac - Strength & conditioning coach and Aaron McLaurin and Joseph Giacobbe - Assistant strength & conditioning coaches.
Analysis:
There are a few interesting things here. First of all, when Blake Williams - who coached linebackers on his father's defense with the Browns last year - was reported to have been hired, it was assumed there'd be no room for Bush on the staff, but Williams took a lower-profile defensive assistant role with the Jets.
Also, on the defensive line, Clyde Simmons had been widely expected to follow Williams to the Jets, but Carter got the job instead even though Simmons is available. On offense, Cooter is a good example of a hire who has worked at a higher level in the past.
Overall, there's also an interesting mix of coaches who've worked with Gase, (Gregg) Williams or Loggains in the past.
