Can Jason Myers set some team records in today's game?
Heading into the season finale, pro bowl placekicker Jason Myers' status was in doubt as he missed a couple of practices due to a hip issue. However, he practiced on Friday and will be good to go in Sunday's game so he has a chance to break the following records:
- 20 points to set the all-time franchise record for most points scored in a season. - While this one is unlikely, it's not impossible, as Myers has achieved it once before this season. His total is currently 5th in franchise history but just four more points will get him to 2nd best. Jim Turner currently holds the record with 145, which impressively came in a 14-game season in 1968;
- Three field goals to set the all-time franchise record for most field goals made in a season. - This record is also held by Turner in that 1968 season and seems much more feasible. Two will obviously tie the record; and
- Two field goals without a miss to set the all-time record for the most accurate season in terms of field goal kicking in franchise history. - Nick Folk, who currently holds the record at 91.7%, made 33 of 36 field goals in 2013 but Myers is currently 32 of 35. One more made field goal will tie Folk and a second will break his record. However, if Myers misses one, this record will be out of reach.
Myers, who already holds the Jets' team record for most 50+ yard field goals in a season and for most 40+ yard field goals in a season, in addition to the NFL record for the most 55+ yard field goals in a season, will be a free agent at the end of the year.
