Camp Recap: Day three - 7/29/18
The Jets were on the field today for their third practice. Here were some of the things that happened based on reports from those on site:
- Quarterback Sam Darnold was still absent, as he still hasn't finalized his rookie contract;
- Most of the Jets, including wide receiver Terrelle Pryor, were in full pads, although Quincy Enunwa was back in a red no-contact jersey as a precaution and Pryor skipped the team session;
- Jamal Adams had an active day, making several plays and firing up the crowd;
- Parry Nickerson was a standout during man coverage drills;
- Both quarterbacks were inconsistent, especially Teddy Bridgewater, leading to restlessness from the crowd;
- Linebacker Neville Hewitt apparently had a good day;
- JJ Wilcox scored on a Thomas Rawls fumble but Rawls and Trenton Cannon otherwise looked good;
- Robby Anderson had a turn at fielding punts today. They had Isaiah Crowell back there yesterday - probably trying to identify a starter who can do the job if the return man gets injured;
- Derrick Jones intercepted a pass for the second day in a row, this time from Bridgewater;
- Bridgewater bounced back to throw touchdowns to Anderson and Tre McBride in red zone work;
- Lorenzo Mauldin had a sack and a run stuff in team and impressed in one-on-one drills;
- Leonard Williams was impressive in both team and drill sessions;
- Tight ends Jordan Leggett and Chris Herndon each made a few plays including a touchdown each from Josh McCown in 7-on-7 drills. Eric Tomlinson and Neal Sterling also each had a red zone score; and
- After practice, Bowles confirmed that Xavier Cooper, Brandon Bryant and Kacy Rodgers, who missed some time, are not injured, attributing this to "camp soreness" in each case.
