Camp Recap: Day 16 - 8/13/2018
The Jets were on the field today for their tenth practice; another joint practice with Washington in Richmond. Here were some of the things that happened based on reports from those on site:
- Tight ends Chris Herndon, Neal Sterling and Clive Walford again missed practice;
- Trumaine Johnson got beaten deep for a big play in one-on-ones;
- Terrelle Pryor beat Deshazor Everett deep for a touchdown in one-on-one drills;
- The Jets gave up a long touchdown on a busted coverage as team periods got underway;
- Neville Hewitt impressed again, blowing up a run in the backfield;
- Derrick Jones came up with another interception, this time on a diving effort off a deflected pass;
- Rookie safety Brandon Bryant was involved in the first altercation of the day;
- Sam Darnold made a couple of nice throws to Chad Hansen and Andre Roberts rolling left in the first set of team periods;
- Xavier Cooper, Foley Fatukasi, Jordan Jenkins and Nathan Shepherd looked good in pass rush drills but Trent Williams again shut down Leonard Williams;
- Jordan Leggett flashed with a diving catch from a Teddy Bridgewater pass and a nice gain after the catch on a shorter pass;
- Darnold completed a long touchdown pass to Robby Anderson over two defenders, although it was apparently slightly underthrown;
- Brent Qvale and Jonotthan Harrison were once again working with the first unit on offense;
- The Jets pass defense struggled against Alex Smith, including Avery Williamson, who gave up a big pass play to Vernon Davis;
- Terrelle Pryor had another good practice, punctuated by a one-handed catch;
- Darnold opened up again in 11-v-11 drills, but the drive stalled when Qvale was called for a hold on third down;
- His second drive also stalled early;
- Smith had more success with the Jets back on defense, breaking away on a keeper and completing two quick passes as they marched downfield in three plays. Davis beat Doug Middleton and JJ Wilcox for the touchdown;
- Bridgewater's drive also stalled, despite completions to Pryor and ArDarius Stewart, who had a good practice;
- Pryor told the media that he broke his ankle in May but is healthy now; and
- Todd Bowles confirmed that Lorenzo Mauldin did not make the trip with the team due to injury.
