Camp Recap: Day 15 - 8/12/2015
The Jets were on the field today for their tenth practice; a predictably chippy joint practice with Washington in Richmond. Here were some of the things that happened based on reports from those on site:
- Isaiah Crowell, Elijah McGuire, Steve McLendon and Kelvin Beachum did not practice. Of the four, only McGuire made the trip. As suspected, Crowell has a concussion according to Todd Bowles;
- Chris Herndon, Clive Walford, Neal Sterling and David Bass were in pads but did not practice;
- Terrelle Pryor, Quincy Enunwa, Jordan Leggett and Marcus Maye returned to practice, as did Thomas Rawls;
- Buster Skrine practiced despite suffering a shoulder injury in Friday night's game;
- Robby Anderson had a good battle with Josh Norman in one on one drills;
- The Jets defensive backs apparently struggled against Washington's receivers in one on one drills;
- Brent Qvale remained with the first team offense with Beachum out. Brian Winters also missed the team periods with Jonotthan Harrison filling in for him;
- After a completion to Eric Tomlinson, Josh McCown threw his first interception since the start of training camp as he tried to squeeze a throw into a tight window, although he bounced back with a nice pass to Jermaine Kearse;
- Teddy Bridgewater had a first down completion to Terrelle Pryor, who talked some trash to his former teammates;
- The offensive line struggled to protect Sam Darnold against Washington's first team defense. He had a pass dropped by Lawrence Thomas and completed an 8-yard screen pass to Trenton Cannon, who also had a nice 12-yard run on the drive;
- In 7-on-7 work, Trumaine Johnson intercepted Alex Smith and then Morris Claiborne broke up a pass on the next play;
- Frankie Luvu, Xavier Cooper and Dylan Donahue impressed in pass rush drills but Trent Williams apparently handled Leonard Williams easily, something none of the Jets have been able to do;
- Brandon Copeland started a minor fight with Ty Nsekhe;
- Darnold reportedly threw the ball well in 7-on-7's including completions to Charles Johnson, Leggett, Kearse and Pryor;
- An incident after the whistle that led to a Morgan Moses knee injury led to a more serious brawl, which was soon broken up and practice continued without anyone being thrown out, although another fight broke out soon afterwards, again involving the Jets defense and Washington offense;
- Antonio Garcia was taken out by Jets coaches after a cheap shot, after which he taunted his opponent;
- Donahue had a sack off the edge in team periods;
- Cannon impressed the Washington beat writers, but did fumble a bad hand-off from Bridgewater;
- Clark, making his return to practice, broke up a pass in team periods;
- JJ Wilcox was shaken up towards the end of practice;
- Each team was to run an 11-v-11 two-minute drill to close out practice. Alex Smith was up first and had a pass broken up downfield on a nice play by Morris Claiborne. However, the drive was successfully completed with a touchdown pass to Jamison Crowder against zone coverage; and
- Darnold was going to lead the Jets' first team on their two-minute drill but torrential rain brought practice to an end, having overrun by about 15 minutes anyway.
