Roster news: Jets release Spencer Long
According to a report from Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the Jets are not picking up Spencer Long's $3 million roster bonus, which means they must release him by tomorrow.

This doesn't necessarily mean that they won't bring Long back on a lower deal with fewer guarantees at some later stage. In fact, Mehta reports that they'd be interested in doing this. However, the team was obviously frustrated with Long's inability to stay healthy - an issue he's had throughout his career.
Long was the starting center last season, but ended up playing left guard down the stretch after his ability to snap the ball accurately continued to be compromised by a finger injury.
The move would the Jets with just four offensive linemen under contract, although they are adding two more on futures deals and have one who is an exclusive rights free agent.
